Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has formally declared his candidacy for president in the 2020 election, joining a crowded field of Democratic hopefuls. Buttigieg was virtually unknown on the national political landscape few months ago but is now surging in recent polls. VOA's Esha Sarai has more.
